Newsweek has a scary cover story about rising gas prices and how oil could pass $200 per barrel soon (it was just $10 per barrel in 1999!). Airline bankruptcies, global economic slowing, etc. are forecast for oil at $200 per barrel:

The Army Research Office just issued a press release saying that the sun, not Man or pollution, is causing global warming. Basically every other scientific organization disagrees:

It is amazing to me that Boeing delivered the new Growler aircraft on time and within budget. The article points out that the new aircraft was based on several already proven systems, but it is pretty unusual that a contractor delivered something on time and on schedule!

China Unicom bought China Netcom for $24 bil and is selling off the less profitable of their two incompatible networks (the CDMA piece):

After China Telecom acquired China Unicom’s CDMA service they pledged to migrate to LTE in 2-3 years. That is big news, as that will rival China’s home-grown TD-SCDMA.

Intel now agrees with Vodafone and Verizon that LTE and WiMAX should be united into one standard:

The latest iPhone rumors are all over the place. For example, some say that it will be thinner than the current iPhone and some say thicker:

The Google-Facebook deal for Friend Connect lasted less than three days!,0,4648352.story

Microsoft has a deal with HP now where HP laptops will come with Microsoft’s search engine as the IE default and there will be a toolbar on the HP laptop that leads to Microsoft’s search engine:

Microsoft is going to keep XP alive for low-end PCs until 2010 or so:

Wal-Mart is offering free online classified ads, an effort that would seem to directly compete with Craigslist and newspapers:

95% of returned electronic devices actually work, but there is a big problem with how Americans do not read manuals and think that devices are too complicated:

8-year-old kid plays baseball, football (threw a lot of TD passes and scored on a play as a WR) and soccer…despite having just one leg!

Cat Toth blogged about the Wii today:

GM will shift its marketing campaign to promote fuel economy and hybrids instead of its normal focus on trucks. Given gas prices and the focus on the environment, this makes sense to me:

It is nice that the Southern California Honda dealers are passing out eco-friendly reusable shopping bags and each provides a code to have Honda plant a tree in people’s names:

Survey of consumers found that the economy is the #1 issue, energy is #2, and the environment is #3:

I didn’t realize that there was such a huge boom in “ethical” beauty products that are fair trade, environmentally friendly, and haven’t been tested on animals:
