I didn’t realize that the FDA permits a certain percentage of bugs, mold, rodent hairs and maggots in our food. For example, the FDA allows tomato juice to have 10 or more fly eggs (or 5 or more fly eggs and 1 or more maggots) per 100 grams, pizza sauce can have 30 or more fly eggs per 100 grams, and hops in beer can have 2,500 plant lice per 10 grams. Apparently the average American ingests 1 to 2 pounds of flies, maggots and mites each year without knowing it:

The drop in milk prices and rise in feed prices has been forcing dairy cows to be sold for slaughter to help dairy operators get cash and cut costs. More than 1.5 million of the 9.3 million dairy cows in the US could be slaughtered this year!
